06How will machines and materials get into the yard?Side access and the width of the gate can change the method and the price.
07Who arranges any approval the work needs?Ask before the work begins, and who pays for it.
08When can you start, and how long will it take?Ask how payments are staged across the work.
09Is there a warranty on the work and the plants?Ask what happens if plants fail in the first months.

What changes the price

Materials, the size of the plants, how much soil comes in or goes out, and how hard the site is to reach are what each quote rests on. Two prices that look far apart may simply be pricing different paving or different sized trees.

Ask each landscaper to list what is not included. Lighting, reticulation and rubbish removal are often left out of a first price.

Before the first visit

Gather a few pictures of gardens you like and a rough idea of how you use the yard. A landscaper can quote far more closely to a clear brief.

Have the house plans handy, and ask each landscaper how they find pipes and cables before anyone digs.
